How did your classes differ from those you have taken at CSULB?
Program Testimonials
•   There is not much weekly homework in the courses offered – just a test or paper is required at the end. Most of the German language classes, however, are like the American style with homework, participation and tests.
•   There is not registration; students simply show up for classes. Grading is determined by exams at the end of the semester – no homework. But, students are expected to keep up with reading. Must be self-motivated.

What was your housing like and how much did it cost you per month? How easy was it to arrange?
Program Testimonials
•   I lived in a eleven story housing structure (Hermann-Ehlers Haus) with thirteen other students on a floor. Each person has their own room, there were four toilets, two showers and a common kitchen and eating area. It was great. There was a party room in the basement and a game room. Two washer and dryers as well.
•   I lived in a WG – a shared apartment with 2 roommates. Lived close to the University and the inner city.
•   The same apartments for 2 people costs about $400/mth.
•   Dorms – cheaper (about €135), own apartment is more expensive, €135-290 (2002).

What were your experiences with the language? Did you feel you had enough language preparation?
Program Testimonials
•   I studied up to 301 German and arrived there with enough language skill to start out. When I had problems in the beginning, I was able to explain in English to the staff. I think, however, that it is a good level to arrive with so that you learn the correct way of speaking before bad habits set in.
•   No matter how much you prep, it is still both difficult and possible. I only had 3 semesters and survived.
