
Founded in 1537, the Lausanne Academy gained its status as a university in 1890 and today is a prinicple of higher education in Switzerland.
The University of Lausanne, near the shores of Lake Geneva, is situated at the heart of the French-speaking region of Switzerland, in the centre of Western Europe –
close to France, Germany, Italy, and Austria. It pursues an active policy of collaboration at both local and international levels.
The UNIL is located in Lausanne, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. The teaching language is predominantly French; however, exchange students can take Business, Economics, and Biology undergraduate courses instructed in English.

On-campus housing is not guaranteed; however, priority is given to international exchange students.Students who do not get on-campus housing accomodation can request a listing of rooms for rent.
Students who are eligible for financial aid may apply their award package to most semester or year long study abroad programs. Students are also eligible for either need-based subsidized or unsubsidized non-need-based federal direct loans. A list of alternative student loans is available in the CSULB Office of Financial Aid (BH-123).
