Program Overview
The CSU IP Spain: Learn Spanish program is affiliated with the University of Jaén, a new, modern campus which enrolls approximately 18,000 students. The program is designed for students at the beginner level of Spanish, and provides students with the opportunity to make rapid progress learning Spanish as well as providing a deeper understanding of the country and culture of Spain.
Upon arrival, students take a placement exam to determine the level of Spanish they will be placed in for the fall semester. After the winter break, in late December/early January, students enroll in an intensive Spanish course which is required for all students. During the spring semester, students will continue their study of the Spanish language, but will also take elective courses such as Spanish literature, Spanish culture and society, and the economy of Spain. Students who have made sufficient progress in the Spanish language may be able to take one course in the Facultad during the spring semester.
For more information about the academic program, students may refer to the
IP Academic Bulletin for the previous year. Note that course offerings are subject to change and may not be offered during the year of intended study.
Location
The CSU IP Spain: Learn Spanish program is located in Jaén, a city in Southern Spain and in the heart of Andalucía. With a modest population of 116,000 residents and unspoiled by mass tourism, Jaén is an ideal location for Spanish language study and cultural immersion. Jaén is an easy bus or train ride to Granada (about one hour) or the beaches of Malaga (about three hours).
