APPLICATION DEADLINES

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

GPA Requirement
2.75 Cumulative GPA

CSU Class Standing
Sophomore, Junior, or Senior. 

Pre-requisites
Two semesters/three quarters of college-level German.

Additional Requirements
Students must submit a resume along with their application, as well as an audition (YouTube video) containing two recent recordings of at least two contrasting works; Composition students must submit one recent original score. Further details regarding this are provided in the program application.

Students are required to take the equivalent of 15 CSU units per semester, in addition to the 6 unit Preparatory Language Program (PLP).

Cost
Students pay the same tuition for Germany: Music at Trossingen University of Music as the tuition paid for their home CSU campus. For more information on costs, including accommodations, travel and other expenses, see the Budget Estimates above.

Program Dates
CSU IP students spend an Academic Year abroad on this program. The traditional German academic cycle begins in early August to July.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Germany: Music at Trossingen University of Music program is affiliated with the Hochschule für Musik, Trossingen. CSU IP has an agreement with the State of Baden-Württemberg, which is in southwest Germany and is home to world-renowned universities, such as the Hochschule für Musik, Trossingen. The CSU IP program is administered by a Program Assistant, based in Tübingen, who is available to students throughout the year. 
 
This program is highly competitive and specifically designed for Music majors. The program begins with a six week Preparatory Language Program (PLP) in Horb, a small town near Tübingen. PLP courses offer instruction in German grammar, reading, writing and conversation and often include cultural excursions. At the conclusion of the PLP, music students will move to Trossingen to enroll in regular university courses. All students are required to take a German language course during the fall and spring semesters.

Due to the highly competitive nature of this program, students are encouraged to have a second choice program in the event that they are not selected for participation. Please note that Trossingen’s application deadline is earlier than other CSU IP programs therefore the deadline to apply for this program is January 15th. The CSU IP application and all materials for Trossingen (audition, original score, resume) must be submitted by this date; application materials will be evaluated by the Hochschule für Musik, Trossingen to determine admissions eligibility. Complete application instructions can be found in your CSU IP application. 
 

LOCATION

The town of Trossingen in located about an hour outside of Stuttgart, nestled between the Swabian Alb and the Black Forest.  Although small, with just over 15,000 inhabitants, Trossingen is renowned as a “music town.” The city’s musical heritage dates back to the early 19th century when various instrument manufacturing businesses were founded and is carried forward today by the Hochschule für Musik.
 

HOUSING

During the PLP in Horb, students live with host families, as arranged by the CSU IP staff in Germany.  In Trossingen, the host university staff will provide students with housing information and assist them in finding permanent accommodations.  Students typically live in dormitories or local apartments.
